Anki Gneib has created two collections for Marrakech Design. Her first collection, Trees and Leaves, was released in 2021 and features two distinct patterns inspired by Scandinavian folklore and the relationship between home and nature.
The collection draws inspiration from the ancient Scandinavian tradition of planting a guardian tree at the center of the yard — a custom that can be traced back to Viking mythology and the World Tree, Yggdrasil. A sacred tree was believed to protect the home from evil while creating a connection to the spirits of nature.
“These handmade cement tiles are a tribute to the beautiful tree growing in my garden,” – Anki Gnieb.
Anki Gneib’s second collection for Marrakech Design, Jacks & Tic Tac, was released in 2023.
The Jacks pattern features straight, overlapping lines that create a playful, game-inspired expression. Tic Tac combines rich earthy tones with vibrant pastels, resulting in a dynamic and contemporary look. Both patterns are designed to be arranged in multiple ways, allowing irregular squares and unique compositions to emerge.
