INSTALLATION & SEALING

Yes, our handmade cement tiles require sealing. We generally recommend resealing the tiles once a year, depending on the area of installation and the level of wear.
Suitable sealers can be ordered directly from Marrakech Design together with your tiles.

Yes, our tiles can be installed in bathrooms and shower areas, provided they are properly sealed.
For shower floors, we recommend cleaning only with mild soap and occasional gentle scrubbing using a Scotch-Brite pad. Acidic or harsh chemical cleaners, often used to remove soap build-up, may damage the surface of the tiles.

Yes, our cement tiles can be installed outdoors, provided they are properly sealed and installed using frost-free grout and adhesives.
Please note that colours such as green, blue, red, and yellow may gradually fade over time when exposed to UV light and weather conditions.
For further information regarding outdoor installation, please refer to our installation guide on Marrakech Design’s website.

No, we do not recommend installing zellige tiles outdoors in climates exposed to freezing temperatures. Due to the risk of the glaze cracking in sub-zero conditions, zellige tiles are best suited for indoor use only.

Yes, cement tiles work very well with underfloor heating systems due to their excellent thermal mass.
When installing over underfloor heating, we recommend using a slightly wider grout joint (3–4 mm) together with a flexible grout to allow for the natural expansion and contraction of the heated floor.
We also recommend waiting at least 10–12 weeks before the underfloor heating system is put into use.

Yes, our tiles can be installed in commercial spaces, provided they are properly sealed and maintained.
It is important that the recommended maintenance instructions are followed. Acidic or harsh chemical cleaners are not recommended, as they may damage the surface of the tiles.

Cement tiles can be cut using an angle grinder or a wet saw. Zellige tiles can be cut or bevelled using a diamond blade. Tile cutters may also be used for zellige, although the results are generally less precise.
Marrakech Design does not offer pre-cut tiles.

One of the qualities of cement and zellige tiles is that they develop a beautiful natural patina over time. Regular maintenance is therefore important to preserve and protect the surface.
We recommend cleaning the tiles regularly using neutral soap or a Natural Stone & Porcelain aftercare cleaner, both suitable for handmade tiles and available from Marrakech Design. We advise against using products containing bleach, acids, or other harsh chemicals.
Please note that even sealed tiles can be sensitive to acidic substances. Coffee, citrus fruits, vinegar, and similar products may cause staining if not cleaned away promptly.

Unlike ceramic tiles, cement tiles are not fired in a kiln but gain their strength through a curing process. The pigmented surface layer is approximately 3–4 mm thick, which gives the tiles a long lifespan and also makes it possible to gently restore the surface if stains occur.
For minor stains, we recommend gently sanding the affected area using fine-grit sandpaper (400 grit or finer) together with mild soap and water. Work on a small area at a time and always test in a less visible spot before treating a larger surface. After sanding, rinse thoroughly with clean water to ensure that no soap residue remains.
For more stubborn stains, sanding together with a Stone & Tile Intensive Cleaner may help.
Allow the tiles to dry overnight before reapplying sealer until the surface is fully saturated.

OTHER

For our cement tiles, we generally recommend choosing a light to medium grout shade. A good guideline is to use the back of the tile when selecting the grout colour, as this often creates the most harmonious result.
For zellige tiles, we usually recommend choosing a grout colour that closely matches the tile itself. However, this is ultimately a matter of personal preference and the overall look you wish to achieve.
We do not recommend using white, black, or strongly coloured grout for our cement tiles, as these may cause visible discolouration of the tiles — even when sealed.

Please store your tiles in a dry and frost-free environment.
