Mats Theselius’ first collection for Marrakech Design, Raval, was released in 2010. Inspired by a meeting between Scandinavian and Arabic design traditions, the collection combines geometric ornamentation with a soft Nordic color palette. The tiles were designed with matching borders and corners, allowing the patterns to be arranged as decorative, carpet-like surfaces or used in simpler compositions.
Following the success of Raval, New Raval was introduced in 2016. Based on the original design, the new collection introduces additional colors and new combinations within the pattern, creating fresh expressions and more variation. With new carefully selected colors, New Raval expands on the original collection while preserving its timeless character.
Mats Theselius’ third collection for Marrakech Design, Lines, was released in 2018, followed by the fourth collection, Dots, in 2023.
Lines marked Marrakech Design’s first collection created specifically for walls. The series consists of four relief patterns — Foyer, Panel, Reed, and Trapeze — all designed with varying line structures that create subtle depth and texture. The collection is available in a palette of soft earthy tones, giving the tiles a calm and architectural expression.
With Dots, the focus shifts primarily to color rather than pattern. The collection consists of six different tiles, including four variations called Dots: Make-up Palette, where recurring dot colors are combined with different background shades. The tiles can be arranged in repeated, varied, or random compositions, allowing for a playful and flexible expression. They can also be combined with plain tiles in matching colors to create softer and more customized layouts.
